frequently asked questions

Do you ship your bread?

At this time we are not able to ship our bread as the shipping costs are prohibitive. If we ever do start shipping our breads, we will post about it far and wide! Stay tuned here on our website as well as on our Facebook and Instagram channels for any updates.

Is everything you make sourdough?

Yes! All of our breads (savory and sweet) are leavened only with our sourdough starter. Our sourdough starter is also incorporated into all of our pastries, including our famous sourdough cinnamon rolls.

Do you make any gluten-free breads?

No. All of our products are leavened only with sourdough starter and undergo a long fermentation process, but they all contain gluten.

Can I eat your breads if I have a gluten sensitivity or intolerance?

First and foremost, we cannot provide any medical advice, so please follow the instructions of a medical professional for any gluten sensitivity or intolerance.

All of our breads undergo a long fermentation process. The only leavening agent in our breads is our sourdough starter — we never use instant or rapid-rise yeast in our breads. Because we use these traditional methods, many people who are unable to tolerate gluten in mass-produced loaves or breads that incorporate instant yeast are able to eat our breads without any problems. For more about the health benefits of sourdough breads, check out the articles linked on our Nutrition Facts page.

Are your breads vegan?

Most of our breads are naturally vegan. Some contain dairy and/or eggs. All ingredients are listed on the bread label.

How old is your starter?

We mixed flour and water together waaayyy back in 2011 to create the sourdough starter that is still going strong today!

Do you teach baking classes?

We would love to teach again, but the bakery and shop have grown so busy that unfortunately we have not been able to schedule classes.

Can I buy loaves at the Sandwich House?

Yes! We sell all our sourdough breads as well as Tampa-style pressed sandwiches, flybys, pastries, and more at our shop, the Sandwich House in Seminole Heights.

Can I buy sourdough starter from you?

Yes! Come to the Sandwich House during our normal business hours (Tue-Sat 8am-3pm, Sun 9am-2pm, closed Mon) to purchase starter for a nominal cost. We are not able to sell sourdough starter at farmers’ markets.

How long does a loaf of your bread last?

Because we do not use any artificial preservatives in our breads, our breads will keep fresh for 1-2 days on the counter top, 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator, and 6+ months in the freezer.
